Rodrick and Nicole Daniels use their construction business to give people a second chance. Many of their employees have been incarcerated or have never had a job, but the Daniels train them, give them a community, and sometimes even minister to them through their church where Rodrick is a minister. Nicole says, “My husband was once one of those men and someone gave him a second chance, so he has a passion to train these guys.”
Nicole’s goal was to do the books herself without having to hire someone to do it for them. She is now fluent in QuickBooks, which she uses to keep proper records for both the business and the church.
SCORE mentor Ken Baker worked with the Daniels on how to structure their construction business. Nicole met with Fred Kistler twice weekly for training on QuickBooks. “I am so grateful for Fred and the SCORE program!” says Nicole. “I can work QuickBooks all by myself now! He was a prayer answered for me.”
Nicole advises small business owners meeting with SCORE mentors: “Have a list of the questions you would like to ask. And be ready to receive all the wisdom you will get!”
